Dear Anorexia

Dear Anorexia,

Please sod off. You’re not welcome here. What gives you the right to destroy lives? I’m not going to sit and watch as you destroy another life without saying my piece.

Firstly, I’d like to say I understand that you’ve been set-up by Society, but may I just tell you that Society is corrupt and though you may think you’re achieving a great thing by striving for ‘perfection’, you’re really just an instrument in Society’s power-struggle. I appreciate your efforts to combat Obesity, who is agreeably very damaging to Society, and her good friend Humanity, but you are merely increasing the opportunity for Self-Harm, and we know we cannot afford that.

Secondly, I’d like to tell you that you are going about it wrong. Please do not think that starving yourself will achieve ‘perfection’. Please do not think that there will be no effects except for extreme weight loss, because that’s wrong. So so wrong.

I would like to take this opportunity to explain how wrong you are, to explain why and hopefully change your mind, so please respect me and listen.

Let me tell you about a girl, who although she never battled against you Anorexia, she has some of the struggles of your so-called ‘perfection’.

  1. The fact she can get her fingers under her ribs is not a cool party trick. It hurts
  2. Being so skinny she can’t wear tight clothes because you can see her ribs
  3. The constant struggle of trying to gain weight so she’s not just a skeleton
  4. Skinny girls + skinny jeans = baggy ankles
  5. Chairman of the Itty-Bitty-Titty-Committee
  6. No such thing as fitting sports leggings

So Anorexia, if these are the effects that you want, you don’t have to go about it that way, but these good bits aren’t good at all.

And the bad bits? The constant nausea, easy bruising, bad joints etc.?

What about the platform it gives for Self-Harm and Low Self-Esteem to bully the Obese? Or even just Insecurity? Don’t console them Anorexia, leave them be. They’re perfect in their own way, one that isn’t achieved with a form of Self-Harm.

Come on Anorexia, you’ve sided with the Mr Hyde of Society, and the Samaritans that are the Mr Uttersons of this world need you to turn your back on Society, let him return to his good side, restore Confidence to her former glory
